WHO ARE WE?

Mission Statement

Arts in the Open (AO) fuses nature with live performance and invites our audience to enjoy the best of what Colorado has to offer. Our productions are an active option that gets the whole family up and moving. We adhere to the 7 principles of Leave No Trace (lnt.org) and reduce, reuse, recycle when possible. We strive to reach audiences through theater, theater education and art in the natural world around us.

Values

● Provide opportunities for local talent to create, educate, perform and inspire.

● Develop and maintain a professional, considerate and safe environment.

● Cultivate collaborative, enriching and educational relationships.

● Connect with, embrace and preserve the outdoors.

What's it all about?

Arts in the Open performs at various locations throughout Colorado, primarily at Chautauqua Park in Boulder.  We do two shows a year, one summer production and one fall production.  Our hikes are usually at a moderate level/pace and last no more than 2 hours.  When you first arrive, you will be greeted by your hiking guide who will lead the way down the trail to each scene location.  Once you arrive at a scene location, you can sit back and relax and watch a scene from the production.  Once the scene is complete, we all gather our things and hike to the next location.

All our productions use minimal props and costumes.  Our performers literally use "what nature gives them".  We've done fun adaptations of classic fairy tales, Shakespeare, literary classics, you name it!

Arts in the Open has expanded our programming!

We now offer outdoor Painting and Theater workshops as well!
